About Department

Botany department has been established in the Muthayammal Memorial College of Arts and Science, in the year of 2020 to impart knowledge to students. The department has attained the UGC programme through sustained hard work of faculty members and students of the UG Department of Botany. We have 5 faculty members in our department and all are Ph.D. Holders, except one faculty. They are engaged in various valuable and innovative researches. The department of Botany is offering B.Sc., programme.

Botany department has been started initially to teach traditional Botany and it has diversified in recent years to offer various fields such as Plant Biodiversity, Cell Biology, Plant Physiology, Mushroom Culture, and Seed Technology. As of now very useful syllabus has been framed to create a unique knowledge for students to develop their career. The Herbarium, a Centre for Plant Taxonomic Research has will be established in this department. Very huge numbers of herbarium specimens have been deposited in this herbarium for plant identification. The department is provided with a mushroom culture centre in which students of UG are trained in mushroom cultivation and also in its marketing strategies. The department will be signed MoU with renowned various organizations.

The department to be organizes various National and International level Workshops, Seminars, Symposium, Hands on training programmes. The department has published more than 30 Research papers and one book chapter. The department has organized one National Conference, Science Day celebration. Faculties and students were attended in international conference, National Level workshop attested in various institutions.
